A Satyrium macrophyllum flower is capable of striking a scary pose in playful or aggressive Halloween style. The effect is achieved by the curves and bulges of the three sepals and two lateral petals, the median petal or hood also playing its part.

The lateral sepals spread like muscular arms raised in full charge while one petal serves as a snout. The other petal slipped out as a loose tongue waving about from apparently moving at speed above the sagging chin.

Evil intent is easily assumed from the expression in the pale, eye-like dots on the column inside the flaring hood. But there is no motorbike for the satyr goat-man to ride.
