Satyrium humile flower and buds

The Satyrium humile flower hood has a conspicuously fringed flap above its opening that give pollinators access to the column. The margin of this upwardly flexed tip is ragged with irregular toothing. Green tinges are visible on some perianth segments.

The lateral sepals curve back strongly. The lateral petals, also about oblong in shape and the odd sepal between them are not so committed to this action.

The buds at the top are still partly covered by purple, pointed bracts that are erect at this stage (Liltved and Johnson, 2012).
