This night photo of Satyrium neglectum flowers shows the compact structure of the small flowers. Every segment other than the hood recurves strongly. The two lateral sepals flank the rounded hood formed by the lip that has an erect pink flap. The petals and median sepal are below, the latter mostly curved out of sight.

This being a Satyrium, the lip is carried at the top of the flower. In other specimens of this plant the median sepal may point straight down while the lateral sepals reach out sideways.

The pink colouring is deeper in the forwardly protruding flower parts, less so near the base where they join. The flowers are sweetly scented.

The reflexed bracts have minutely ciliate margins, i.e. the margins are fringed with tiny hairs (Manning, 2009; www.pacificbulbsociety,org).
