Solanum tomentosum variable calyces

The back view of the Solanum tomentosum flower in picture shows fewer calyx lobes than are present on the closed flower. Solanum flowers have from 4 to ten calyx lobes. Tthe differences are clearly not only occurring on an interspecies or inter-specimen basis, but even on the same plant.

The pedicels, calyces, bud clusters and even leaf margins have some purple hairs in the photo. Leaf margins are scalloped or sinuate, generally blunt-tipped and variable, here not very neatly shaped.

The plant is not browsed (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
