The fruit of Solanum linnaeanum is a yellow, spherical berry of about 2,5 cm in diameter. It starts off green with irregularly shaped pale blotches on the shiny surface, ripening to an evenly coloured bright yellow as shown here. The long, narrow sepals, also embellished with the ubiquitous spines characterising the plant, clutch the base of the fruit as seen in the picture.
The preceding flower was mauve or purple. Flowers grow solitary or in small groups from leaf axils. The corolla measures 1,5 cm across. The pointed petals form a star-shape, fused at the base into five radially symmetric corolla lobes. Large yellow anthers are positioned around the base of the green style (Manning, 2007; Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; iSpot).
