The leaves of Solanum aculeastrum are usually spirally arranged. The leaf-shape is broadly elliptic or ovate to nearly circular and somewhat angularly lobed, slightly or deeply, into up to seven sections, but not toothed.
The leaf colour is bright to dark green above and white, woolly below with spines along the leaf midrib and large lateral veins on both surfaces. Leaf size may be as large as 15 cm long and 13 cm wide. Leaf petioles become as long as 3 cm, often armed with spines as well (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
