Vachellia erioloba vertical highway covering

The bark of Vachellia erioloba is grey to blackish brown when mature, red-brown and shiny when young. On an old trunk the bark becomes deeply furrowed, its texture fine, longitudinally threaded and soft splintery. Some old parts appear as if stuck on.

When trunk expansion has recently been strong, a few vertical strips like rivulets of younger bark may be red-brown where old upper bark is absent.

No spines or even twigs are seen low down on big stem parts (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; iNaturalist).
