Old Vachellia sieberiana var. woodii stems may become less busy in appearance, even smoother than their earlier flaky days. That is if the scattered scar patches are ignored where events of losing branches or altercations involving physical contact had taken place.

The smoother parts representing low event incidences display dry rivulets of deeper fissuring than in the flaking era. The vertical aspect of fissuring in surface shapes is never lost, only mildly altered by some meandering downwards flow. Height growth happens elsewhere after all, stem parts covered in thick bark only get thicker down below. And bulges in some places go with increased thickness.

Colours of the smooth parts vary in faint traces of pale buff and associated hues, contrasting against the dark war zones: those patches where breaks and crags bear witness to earlier life events of a less tranquil nature.
