Its not often that one sees a mosquito partaking in nectar sipping. But what a pleasure for any pollinator to work flowers so open and accessible. Produced in large numbers, so close together and forthcoming with such copious supplies of nectar. Its like continual happy hour at the pub.

A funny flower shape exists in Ziziphus mucronata subsp. mucronata; highly functional for pollinators. And these trees are among the most widespread on the southern African subcontinent. Maybe the two facts are related: the trees are so plentiful on the land because their pollinators are so well treated.

The unspotted ladybird and the striped mosquito are also-rans compared to the incidence of bees that feast on Z. mucronata subsp. mucronata flowers. A notably good honey comes from these endeavours (www.plantzafrica.com).
