Wahlenbergia grandiflora, commonly the giant bell flower, is an evergreen perennial that reaches heights from 25 cm to 70 cm. The robust plant grows erect stems and forms colonies. The alternate leaves are hairy, the margins wavy. Leaf dimensions are up to 4 cm long and 8 mm wide.
The species distribution is in the east of South Africa, from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo. The habitat is grassland. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.
This is a moderately frost-resistant, summer rainfall garden subject that thrives in poor soil and is grown from seed (Pooley, et al, 2025; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
