Wahlenbergia thunbergiana, previously Lightfootia thunbergiana and L. anomala, is a brittle shrub reaching 80 cm in height.
The species is found in the Northern Cape and the Western Cape from Namaqualand southwards to the western part of the Little Karoo. The photo was taken at Naries near Springbok.
The plants are found in arid and semi-arid conditions among rocky slopes and flats in shrub vegetation where the plants grow in sandy soil. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
