Watsonia angusta, locally known as rooikanolpypie or vleikanol, is an evergreen cormous perennial. It grows fibrous, blue-green leaves with prominent midribs. When the usually branched flower stalk is mature, these plants stand about 1,2 m tall. The leaves become about 2 cm wide. Angusta (Latin) means narrow.

The distribution of the species lies from the Bokkeveld Plateau near Nieuwoudtville in the Western Cape along the southern swathe of mountain fynbos to the Eastern Cape and into KwaZulu-Natal, mostly in moist areas (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
