The barrel-shaped leaves of Trichodiadema obliquum have these clusters of thick hairs at their tips. Each hair emerges from a tiny globular cell-like structure; brown when young, grey later. These little objects are clustered tightly together upon each leaf tip.
The leaf surface is covered in conspicuous, dome-shaped cells with some translucence, some shine and sometimes a papilla, a small fleshy protuberance (Smith, et al, 1998; Hartmann, et al, 2002, Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants).
