Zaluzianskya benthamiana

Zaluzianskya benthamiana is an erect annual herb that branches and becomes 30 cm tall.

The opposite leaves growing on hairy stems are lanceolate with somewhat pointed tips and entire margins. The upper surfaces of the leaves are concave to channelled. Leaf colour is dark to pale green and there is a covering of glandular hairs upon the surfaces. Leaf dimensions are about 3,5 cm long by 0,5 cm wide.

The species distribution is from Namibia through the western Karoo to the Little Karoo. The plant grows on flats and lower slopes in sandy soils among various vegetation types, but not in fynbos. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century.

The species used to be called Z. bolusii and Manulea buchubergensis at different times in the past (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
