Ursinia speciosa is a slender, erect annual that reaches heights from 10 cm to 40 cm. The plants may branch from the base.

The species distribution is in the Western Cape and the Northern Cape, in the Namaqualand Klipkoppe and coastal plain southwards to around Malmesbury; also in Namibia. The photo was taken in the Biedouw Valley.

The habitat is sandy flats and slopes where the plants grow in the open. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
