The Ursinia calenduliflora flowerheads are slow to spread their rays this morning. The dark rings of the ray bases are visible already around the discs. The narrowly elliptic rays are orange with roundly notched tips.

The species occasionally produces flowerheads without the dark rings.

At the back of the flowerhead the imbricate pattern of the oblong involucral bracts with narrowing, rounded tips is in evidence on the slack-necked head. The papery appendages at the bract tips are not so clear to see here (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
