The variegated leaf form of Tulbaghia violacea, known as T. violacea “variegata” and commonly as variegated society garlic or silver lace, has cream-coloured margins on their grey-green, strap-shaped leaves.

Clumps of many leaves (and underground rhizomes) soon form, looking good flowering in full sun, even where water is scarce.

Many Tulbaghia plants become sweet-scented after dark, adapted for moth-pollination. T. violaceae retains its scent during daytime. The variegated plant should not be expected in the wild (Gledhill, 1981; https://everydaywits.com; http://pza.sanbi.org).
