Tulbaghia violacea inflorescence bud

The flattened, elongating bud of a Tulbaghia violacea inflorescence consists of several flowers. It starts off enveloped in two grey-green spathes that persist and become reflexed. The scape is smooth and cylindrical, coloured similarly to the spathes.

The pedicels have thread-like bracts. When ready to open, the flowers are released by the spathes to spread into a somewhat rounded umbel. In picture the six tepals of each flower are still together, only slightly taller than the spathes (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; iNaturalist).
