Viscum capense berries

The spherical fruit of Viscum capense are translucent berries, becoming 4 mm to 5 mm in diameter. They lose their yellow-green colouring, becoming whitish and gaining in translucence as they ripen, the dark ring or spot persisting at the berry tip.

The berries may be very abundant upon the plant in winter and spring. This plant was already doing well, photographed in autumn.

The plant resembles V. hoolei that has bisexual inflorescences and similar berries.

V. capense is browsed by game and livestock (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
