    The soft, male cones of Widdringtonia nodiflora are pale yellow-brown and small, only 2 mm to 4 mm long. They grow solitary and catkin-like from branchlet tips.

    Each male cone consists of leathery, pointed scales growing in about six opposite pairs, each perpendicular to the previous pair (decussate). There are a few pollen sacs at the base of each scale (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Leistner, (Ed.) 2000; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; iNaturalist).
