Widdringtonia nodiflora leaves

The leaves of this mountain cypress appear dense and healthy. Young leaves are spirally arranged, needle-like and fresh to bright green. They become about 2 cm long. Tiny old leaves, scale-like, hairless, dark green and only 2 mm long, are presses to the numerous, branched, thin upper stems. 

This leaf arrangement is typical of the juniper type of cypress trees, scale-like or awl-like (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; Wikipedia; www.plantzafrica.com).
