Tarchonanthus littoralis stem-tip

The stem-tip leaves of Tarchonanthus littoralis, the coastal camphor bush, may appear rougher than the older ones immediately below, on which the dark green colouring is not yet established. The long narrow blades may be flat, or their lateral margins may be curved up.

The white velvety condition of the lower surface is more stable. The midrib protrudes here like a thick rope. The lateral veins ascend from the midrib about parallel, fairly close together and slightly in-curving.

These veins are clear to see on both surfaces, particularly on the young leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Venter, 2012, Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist).
