Trachyandra divaricata, the branched onion-weed, spreads and forms clumps of tufted leaves and flower stems. A mature plant will annually grow several sturdy, green, branched stems from its rhizomatous base.
The bright green leaves are smooth and hairless. The leaf shape is nearly flat, fleshy, long and narrow. It is described by Manning (2009) as quill-like. Leaves are enveloped at the base within membranous sheaths.
The green, leathery fruit is a segmented, ovoid capsule that turns red, later black (Manning and Goldblatt, 1996).
