Zygophyllum foetidum flowers may occasionally lack the red markings at the bases of its petal lobes. The pale yellow lobes have entire margins lower down and laterally, their tips in picture variously ragged.

Eight, possibly ten stamens are present on out-curving filaments; the anthers appearing much to bear. The whitish, fleshy appendages that flank the filament bases are usually hidden in the flower base, faintly visible here around the green, superior ovary. There isn’t much to be seen of the style on top of the ovary.

Woody grey branches are clearly in evidence on this plant photographed in the Kammanassie in April. It is far from flush with young, green stems as the plant is often seen, well covered in soft, new growth (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
