Zygophyllum morgsana, commonly known in Afrikaans as slymbos (slime bush), has conspicuous fruits with four yellowish-brown wing attachments. The shape, known as a samara, is similar to that of many Combretum trees and some other plants.
The species is related to the bean caper, Z. fabago, which is known and eaten in countries around the eastern parts of the Mediterranean.
The plant may dominate in thickets as on the west coast south of Saldanha and in limestone scrub coastland, for instance the De Hoop Nature Reserve east of Bredasdorp.
Roepera is an earlier and sometimes still used name of the Zygophyllum genus (Manning, 2009; www.thefreedictionary.com).
