    The two-lipped Babiana bainesii flowers are either blue in several shades or mauve with white blotches variably spread on the lower lateral tepals. There are sometimes small yellow markings as well inside the white patches.

    Unopened flowers of the spike are visible above the open flower in picture. These are still covered in green bracts with russet-brown tips (Manning, 2009; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Lowrey and Wright, 1987; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; https://wildflowernursery.co.za).
