Babiana framesii

Babiana framesii is a cormous perennial reaching heights around 15 cm. The stiff leaves are narrowly lanceolate, pleated and hairy.

The species distribution is small, occurring on the Bokkeveld Plateau near Nieuwoudtville.

The plant grows among karoid scrub on rocky dolerite outcrops in heavy clay soils, as well as in sandy soils from sandstone and granite. It is rare but the population is deemed to be stable early in the twenty first century (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
