Bauhinia galpinii, some age-related changes

The young, pointed Bauhinia galpinii buds change colour as they develop. At a certain stage, depicted here, the buds resemble the shape of mortar shells. Let’s not pursue that analogy, as flower world should rather steer away from humanity’s major bane, the habit of war.

One of these flowers has yellow claws on its petals. It is probably the oldest one in view. Style colouring may contrast variably against petal claw colour.

The old, ruggedly dark brown and grey fruit pod presenting a flank to the camera, shows no bulges on its outside to suggest that there are seeds inside. On some plants the developing pods do bulge more from what grows inside. So, maybe there’s nothing inside here. The whole exercise then futile, unless some insects were fed, and someone loved the flower. Some pods also twist (Manning, 2009; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
