The vaalstompie (little grey stump) as Brunia laevis is commonly called in Afrikaans, grows on higher altitude slopes, blooming from late winter to the end of summer.

In picture the external floral parts have been discoloured reddish brown with age, but not discarded yet (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; www.fernkloof.com).
