Berzelia lanuginosa

Berzelia lanuginosa, commonly known in Afrikaans as the vleiknoppiesbos (marsh little knobs bush) or kolkol (patch-patch), is a sparsely branched, single-stemmed shrub reaching about 2 m in height. 

The globose flowerheads of tiny, cream-coloured florets appear in terminal clusters from spring to early summer. The plant is pollinated by bees, flies and other insects.

The species distribution is in the west of the Western Cape, from the Cape Peninsula northwards to Piketberg and the Cederberg, eastwards to Worcester and Bredasdorp.

The habitat is moist places on fynbos slopes and flats. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2009; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org; https://redlist.sanbi.org).
