Bobartia indica is a rhizomatous, tufted perennial reaching heights to 1 m, sometimes a little more. The sometimes-trailing leaves are cylindrical, longer than the flowering stems.
The species distribution is in the southwest of the Western Cape from the Cape Peninsula to Mamre and north of Wellington, east as far as Caledon. The photo was taken near Hermanus.
The habitat is mainly fynbos on sandy flats and rocky slopes in the winter rainfall region. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
