Barleria greenii corolla and some calyces

The pale pink Barleria greenii flower seen in January shows more of its petal lobes than the tube below the central funnel-shape. The four straight stamens in the centre are long and together, their filaments white and the small anthers dark.

The flower has a four-lobed calyx. The outer pair of lobes is large, leaf-like and conspicuously veined on their outer surfaces, visible in the photo. The inner lobes are lateral and small. There are also small bracts below each calyx.

The flowers grow from leaf axils. The long, bare internodes are ridged between leaves and flowers, clustered at the nodes.

The opposite leaves in picture are dark green and slightly shiny, tapering to acutely pointed tips that recurve and form hooks. The leaf midribs are raised on the upper surfaces and the blade halves fold in around them (Pooley, 1998; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000).
