Known as the small bush violet or klein bosviooltjie in Afrikaans, Barleria repens is a popular garden plant in many parts of the world. It originates from southern and central Africa, specifically the forested areas of KwaZulu-Natal. It is evergreen, spreading, even scrambling with attractive mauve or cerise flowers. Blooming happens in summer and autumn.
Keep it moist, grow it in semi-shade with ample compost. These plants cope in a wide range of temperatures (above freezing).
