Elongated Brunsvigia bosmaniae buds ready to open and some having done so already, show stages of inflorescence development here. The buds lengthen steadily, the tepals separating when fully elongated.

The two broad, flat, spathe bracts that covered the buds when they were short enough initially underground, have reduced in significance around the pedicel bases but remain attached to the top of the peduncle.

The dung of livestock, more likely than game, is lying around here among the flowering plants on the bare ground. Maybe there was some grass for grazing in an earlier season, or maybe the animals merely spent rest time here.

One of the significant benefits enjoyed by geophytes is the opportunity to do a disappearing trick during their rest season. This allows for safety in the absence of above-ground parts that might be consumed by fire or get trampled by those with feet (Duncan, et al, 2016; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
