Diascia patens flowering

The Diascia patens flowers in picture grow long-stalked in opposite pairs from nodes at stem-tips. Small, triangular bracts subtend the hairy pedicels. The also opposite leaves below the inflorescences are quite different to the bracts.

The small, green buds still under sepal protection nod. The open flowers face up to outwards, the curved pairs of spurs at the back of each corolla point away from the flower stalk.

Flowering happens from late autumn to spring, best after rain that follows a fire (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
