Greenness is enhanced on older leaves and the bracts around the inflorescence of these young Didelta carnosa var. carnosa plants. Young leaves are greyer and hairy. The long, narrow leaves are thickly fleshy with margins strongly rolled under, variously curving along the leaf length. The leaves of this plant become up to 10 cm long.
The photo was taken among the Namaqua Klipkoppe, the plants growing in the open on gravelly sand. The plant is thought not to be var. tomentosa although the leaves are hairy, as that variety is said to grow on the flats near the coast (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
