Dimorphotheca sinuata flowerhead

This Dimorphotheca sinuata flowerhead has opened some disc florets showing white on the blackish surface; some of them lush, other radiating fine lines. Tiny reddish buds form a broad, circular band around the black centre that comprises still more buds but of a different condition.

    D. sinuata flowerhead discs are often also orange or yellow. More plants or pictures have to be studied to fathom what flowering activities, maybe the beginnings of fruiting, are going on here.

The bases of the ray florets are dark brown (Manning, 2009; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist).
