Drimia media flowering stages

A Drimia media raceme has well-spaced, long-pedicelled flowers.

The narrow tepals are dark-keeled and whitish on their inner surfaces. When fully open, the six tepals recurve strongly, their pointed tips close together around the ovary at the flower base (and slightly concave right at the tips). The cohering stamens have bluish anthers, the stigma white.

The buds at the top of the raceme bulge at their tips, as well as at the base where the ovaries are dark-coloured. Lower down, where the flowers have reached the end of their open phase, the old tepals have turned back and closed again. They form a wrinkled, pinkish tube around the decaying stamens; the ovary by now the domain of remaining vital functions (Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot).
