When fynbos fire doesn’t come too often, Diospyros glabra is one of the shrubs that may surprise with its size. Not all the branches are erect here, still quite effective though in carrying their annual fruity burden. Maybe it’s from being laden with fruits that some backs are so bent for a while, until birds and baboons eat the fruit and disperse the seeds (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist; https://greg.app/diospyros-glabra-overview; https://joysafaribay.com).
