    Diospyros whyteana, the bladdernut, is usually a shrub with attractive shiny and often sparsely hairy leaves, more so along the margins. The thin branchlets manage a light brown but the leaf midribs are grey here, the lateral veins sometimes visible. The glossy leaves are mostly convex above, otherwise bent, considered wavy.

    While there are more illustrious tree relatives in the Diospyros genus, like the African ebony or in Afrikaans jakkalsbessie (jackal berry), this is a worthwhile plant to consider for the garden (Schmidt, et al, 2002; iNaturalist).
