This inflorescence of Disa baurii is denser than the usually lax form typical of the species. It still has some buds at the top preparing to open, the lateral sepals of which still folded around the front of the dorsal one.

On the second bud from the top the resupination process of the Disa flower is still underway: While the lower buds and open flowers upon the inflorescence have their cylindrical spurs pointing up, this one is still down.

The beginning of a resupinate orchid bud has its median (or dorsal) sepal below, the lip at the top. Resupinate orchid flowers twist around before opening, bringing the median petal, the lip to the bottom of the flower.

A spur may grow on either the median petal (the lip), or on the median sepal of an orchid (if it has a spur at all). The spurs on orchid lips usually hang below their flowers, while on disas that have their spurs on the dorsal sepals, spurs are positioned above the flower centres (http://orchids.wikia.com; iSpot; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
