The donkievygie, or to use its more respectable name, Mesembryanthemum splendens, is one of the most common succulents of the territory. It may be seen flowering white almost anywhere in the Little Karoo.
It may also do so throughout the year, as long as there has been rain. Though mainly in winter, it may rain here at any time, but not all the time; the grey-green, small leaved vegetation shouts its adaptation to thirst. The odd thunder storm in summer does bring relief, after having serviced many other places to the south first.
