Microloma namaquense is a twining herb only seen in the Namaqualand veld. It uses a little help from its friends by snaking up nearby, low-growing shrubs with the branch rigidity it does not possess itself.

More flower variety is thus presented to pollinators, should they be picky or adventurous. The bright red of the flowers up in the shrubs still tends to stir curiosity in a landscape binging on colour in its flowering season.

The flower shape could interest potters looking for new designs. The palatable plants do interest stock and game.

By the time you’ve seen all eleven Microloma species bloom in their southern African habitat you will have spent a lot of money on shoes (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Eliovson, 1990).
