Hibiscus pusillus is a photogenic shrublet. These delicate, pink-tinged petals are rare in some parts of the species distribution, where they are often yellow and the dark flower centre only sometimes present.

Flowering usually happens from before midsummer to autumn, the photo taken in May. In some parts of the country flowering may occur later.

The rough hairs on the stems may split at their tips, forming star-shapes.

The plant shares its common names with another Hibiscus, viz. H. trionum (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
