Berzelia commutata, a plant belonging to the Bruniaceae family, grows small, ericoid leaves upon its many small stems that angle up and out from main stems. The globular flowerheads characterising Berzelia are also found on Brunia species.
This plant seen in Langkloof veld is growing further east than most berzelias. Only B. intermedia is also found as far east as the Eastern Cape.
Berzelias and brunias feature much in the fynbos cut-flower trade (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
