Solanum laciniatum is an Australian exotic found in South Africa, also in the Langkloof. The plant is cultivated in some countries as an ornamental shrub. Some indigenous tribes, presumably in Australia eat the ripe fruit, the ellipsoid yellow berries. The unripe fruits are poisonous.
This plant has been noted in the SAPIA Newsletter No. 20 of July 2011 as an emerging invasive species in wetlands in the George area. It should be removed where possible.
There is more about this plant in the Solanum Album (www.flora.sa.gov.au; Wikipedia).
