Holothrix thodei flower spike

The inflorescence of Holothrix thodei varies from dense to lax, becoming about 25 cm long. Pale hairs, long and often facing downwards occur on the scapes. The ovaries are curved, pointing their flowers to face outwards or slightly below the horizontal.

Flower colour is yellowish to brownish green, the short, pointed sepals darker than the petals they accompany. The two lateral petals are thin and thread-like, angled up above the column. The lip, below the column is three-lobed, the median lobe notably longer than the lateral pair. Lip length is about 5 mm.

The leaves have withered by the time the plant flowers, which happens from midsummer to early autumn (Pooley, 1998; www.orchidspecies.com).
