The funnel-shaped to bell-shaped Dierama reynoldsii flower in magenta or wine-red has pointed tepals with dark vein lines. The erect, oblong anthers are curving and cream-coloured, at least at their tips. Two of normally three style branches, blue purple and smaller than the anthers, are visible above them, their tips hooked.
The white, papery bracts on the dark bud bases to the left in the photo persist on both the open flower and the dark withered flowers to the right, lower in the spike (Pooley, 1998; http://pza.sanbi.org).
