Bobartia orientalis subsp. orientalis after flowering

This Bobartia orientalis subsp. orientalis plant has finished flowering by May.

Its cylindrical leaves and stems may be mistaken for a restio, but easily recognised as Bobartia when the yellow flowers or spiky heads of stalked capsules are present.

Many flowers in the compact head did not make it to fruiting (or not yet but unlikely now). Those that did, have already delivered their rough-surfaced, angular seeds. The unopened capsule is from 4 mm to 8 mm in diameter.

These plants may form large stands when conditions are favourable, tending to predominate on overgrazed land (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist).
