Vincent Carruthers wrote in his book on the Magaliesberg: “The history of the Magaliesberg in recent centuries has been one of incessant violence: the greatest armies ever assembled in southern Africa clashed in these mountains and here lie the memories of bitter wars between Nguni and Sotho, Boer and Briton” (p.3, 1990).
The indomitable vegetation and time have sustained the serenity and beauty of this special natural refuge. No wonder so many have worked and are still working so hard to preserve this heritage for the generations to come.
